Over 140 drivers exceed speed limit in Moldova in one day alone, National Patrol Inspectorate says

Chisinau, 11 May /MOLDPRES/ - As many as 145 drivers on 10 May were discovered as driving with a speed above the limit allowed. The infringements were fixed by a trap car, the National Patrol Inspectorate (INP) has said.
A press officer at INP, Natalia Golovco, said that the action of detecting high- speed drivers had taken place on the road Anenii- Noi – Causeni – Stefan Voda – border with Ukraine and was aimed at preventing traffic accidents.
According to Golovco, of all infringements fixed by the radar, 40 per cent belonged to drivers heading with a speed by more than 20 km/hour above the limit. Another 30 per cent exceeded the speed limit by 40 km/hour and over 20 per cent were driving with a speed higher by more than 40 km/hour against the allowed one.
All vehicle drivers were sanctioned with fines ranging between 300 and 1,500 lei, with applying penalty points from 3 to 5.
Statistics unveiled by the National Patrol Inspectorate shows that the exceeding of the legal speed limits represented one of the main reasons for serious traffic accidents.
As many as 701 traffic accidents have occurred on Moldova’s roads since early 2018, in the wake of which 87 people died and 841 were injured.
