Moldovan parliament to fix date of parliamentary polls till end of current session

Chisinau, 11 May /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament will adopt a decision, thereby fixing the date of the parliamentary polls due in 2018. Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu has made statements to this effect exclusively to MOLDPRES.
According to Candu, a string of consultations will be organized on the weeks to come on the parliamentary platform with the civil society and parties on the organization of the elections and ensuring the democratic and free character of the ballot.
“Till the end of the parliament’s current session, we will adopt a decision, under which we will fix the date of the parliamentary polls due in 2018, in order to allow the electoral authorities, as well as all electoral contenders to prepare for the ballot in equal conditions,” Candu said.
Earlier this week, the leader of the Moldovan Democratic Party (PDM), Vlad Plahotniuc, asked the lawmakers to discuss with the factions, in order to agree on the date of the ballot and vote this date in the parliament till late May.
At that time, the Democrats’ leader informed that PDM has worked out a string of proposals meant to consolidate the democratic character of the parliamentary elections due in 2018 and asked the MPs to create a working group on the polls’ organization. “We will do everything needed for the electoral process due next autumn be fair and democratic, be supervised by as many as possible international observers, the civil society of Moldova and from abroad, so that the citizens have the correctness of the vote they give guaranteed,” the PDM leader said.
