Chisinau, 12 May /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s EU road is not debatable, but irreversible. Prime Minister Pavel Filip has made this statement in an interview given to the publication The Guardian.
According to the quoted source, most Moldovans support the country’s European integration and the pro-European parties will prevail after the elections due this autumn.
The prime minister said relations with Romania were at a “historic high”, but warned outside players from interfering. ‘’We have countries, as well as politicians pumping up this [nationalist] feeling and fostering this division, but we don’t want to be caught up in this game,’’ Filip said.
The publication The Guardian also writes that ‘’a recent poll showed that 60% of Moldovans would vote to join the EU. Meanwhile, the two largest pro-EU parties, one centre-right and one social democrat, were five points clear of Russia-leaning Socialist party.
Journalists from The Guardian, in the same article, describe Moldova as the poorest country in Europe, grappling with corruption and the frozen conflict in the eastern Russian-speaking enclave of Transnistria.
