Moldovan government supports strengthening of national mass media sector

Chisinau, 16 May /MOLDPRES/ – The Cabinet of Ministers has endorsed today the draft of the National concept of mass media development in Moldova for 2018 – 2025. The document seeks to strengthen mass media system as to guarantee right of citizens to info and will be a benchmark in implementation of public policies in it, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The goal of the concept is to be achieved by creating an effective regulatory framework for media activity in a secure space. Also, fair competition conditions for the economic agents will be ensured, including the development of a new law on advertising, according to international standards.

The project also includes measures to increase professionalism of domain specialists. Especially, there will be adjusted training programmes for instructing managers in written, audiovisual and online mass media. It will also be strengthened cooperation between all national and international institutions investigating mass media.

As a result of endorsement process, the Cabinet has proposed to exclude aspects of transition to digital terrestrial television from the list of vulnerabilities, as necessary measures in it have been fully met. According to a governmental decision, over 56,000 families receiving social assistance will be provided with digital terrestrial TV converters for free.
