Chisinau, 26 June /MOLDPRES/- Regional security issues were discussed in Washington by Prime Minister Pavel Filip and the leadership of the US Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (Helsinki Commission), Senator Roger Wicker and Congressman Chris Smith, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The premier thanked for the support in terms of the territorial integrity of the country. In the context, the importance of the resolution by which the US Congress supports Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia in the territorial integrity and political sovereignty was noted.
Filip pointed out the significant impact of US support for structural reforms and democratic processes in the Republic of Moldova, noting that the implementation of the Association Agreement remains the top priority of the government.
“Everything we have done in the last 2 years are fundamental reforms, but the results are going to be felt over time. We need more than ever the US support to continue the reforms that have begun,” he said.
The US officials have appreciated the Moldovan authorities’ efforts to align with the best international practices in the fight against corruption, defense and security.
The US Helsinski Commission monitors the implementation of the conventions signed in Helsinki in 1975 and is made up of nine members of both chambers of the US legislature and one representative of the Department of State, Defense and Commerce.
