Moldovan MPs identify solutions to decrease prices for petrol, diesel

Chisinau, 27 June /MOLDPRES/ - The MPs from the commission for economy, budget and finances, at a today’s meeting, analyzed possibilities to decrease the prices for petrol and diesel. The director general of the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE), Tudor Copaci, answered questions by lawmakers.

The ANRE director said that a drop in the prices for oil products was expected to occur soon, due to the fact that the oil price was decreasing internationally. “If the tendency of diminution of prices is maintained on the international market, then this decrease will also be reflected in the ceiling prices set by ANRE,” Copaci noted.

The head of the commission for economy, budget and finances, Stefan Creanga, has said that, following discussions held in the commission, two solutions of prices’ decrease can be highlighted. The first one would be the decrease of excise duties on oil products and the second one would imply the providing of subsidies to sectors. Creanga also said that, if the excise duties are decreased by one Moldovan leu, then the state budget would fail to collect 500 million lei annually.

On 26 June, ANRE established the ceiling prices for oil products for the next two weeks. Thus, the ceiling price for petrol will be by 0.05 lei lower and will stand at 19.10 lei for one litre and diesel will by 0.09 lei cheaper, being 17 lei for one litre.

The ceiling selling retail prices for petrol and diesel are calculated based on the average Platts quotations, recalculated in Moldovan lei, proceeding from the average official exchange rate of the national currency against the U.S. dollar, established by the National Bank of Moldova, for the last 14 calendar days.
