Moldovan parliament speaker thanks USA for support

Chisinau, 28 June /MOLDPRES/ - The security risks triggered by the unsanctioned presence of the Russian troops in the region, the energy security in Eastern Europe, as well as the reforms underway have been discussed by the parliament speakers of Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine with members of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations in Washington, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu asked for the United States’ full and active involvement in the promotion of democratic values, implementation of reforms and ensuring security in the region. Along with his counterparts from Georgia and Ukraine, Andrian Candu thanked the USA for support and encouraging messages. They received assurances on backing for the project on regional cooperation for security and European integration, launched in Chisinau in last March.
The sides discussed the importance of the U.S. Congress’ Resolution for Moldova, as well as the resolution supporting Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine. Also, the officials tackled the issue of North Stream 2 – a project seen as a threat for the energy security from the region.
Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, along with his counterparts from Georgia and Ukraine, accompanied by the parliament speaker of Lithuania and Deputy Speaker of the Polish Senate, for the first time ever pay a trilateral visit to the USA on 25 June – 1 July.
