Chisinau, 16 July /MOLDPRES/ - About 300 people from the Chisinau municipality, of whom 195 children, appealed to medical institutions specialized in infections with acute diarrheal diseases last week. The deputy head of the social assistance and health department, Carolina Olaru, has made statements to this effect at a weekly meeting of the Chisinau city hall’s services.
According to Olaru, 160 persons were hospitalized in all, which accounts for 54 per cent. “Forty two sporadic cases of acute diarrheal diseases were recorded among children attending kindergartens in 37 institutions,” Olaru said.
The signs of diarrhea are: high fever up to 40 Celsius degrees, pains in abdomen, nausea, vomiting, general weakness, headaches. In children, especially in babies smaller than one year, the clinical signs develop quicker than in adults and the health condition can worsen in a shorter period.
If clinical signs of acute diarrheal diseases appear, self-treatment is banned, especially when these symptoms are developing in children. The basic recommendation is to urgently consult a family physician with the prescription of a proper treatment.
