Over 40 per cent of works to repair kindergartens from Moldovan capital carried out

Chisinau, 16 July /MOLDPRES/ - As much as 40 per cent of the works of repair planned at Chisinau-based kindergartens have been carried out and 75 out of the 159 pre-school education institutions from the Moldovan capital work at present. The head of the Education, Youth and Sport General Department, Rodica Gutu, said at a weekly meeting of the city hall’s services today.

The department’s management unveiled a report on the work of kindergartens during the summer vacation and use of money earmarked for the repair works.  

„The activity of 99 kindergartens was suspended in summer in all. Twenty institutions were closed in last June, 63 – in July and 7 will be closed in August. Repair works take place at about 70 institutions. The sum allocated to this end is of more than 18 million lei. The works regard repair in the nourishment unit, current repairs, works at facades, windows and sanitary blocks,” Gutu noted.  

The Chisinau acting general mayor, Ruslan Codreanu, said that the present resources were not turned to account properly. “The fact that only 40 per cent of the works are carried out with the resources allocated means that there is a problem in terms of turning to good account the money. There are resources, a few, but there are; therefore, I insist that the works be finished till 1 September. At the same time, I ask that the works planned from the municipal budget be made public, as we have nothing to hide. I insist that the information be placed on doors of the kindergartens,” Codreanu said.    

The acting mayor noted that, despite the interdictions to collect money in schools and kindergartens, illegal actions of this kind would take place at some institutions. “Windows are used to be repaired with the city hall’s money; yet, parents are not informed about this and money is again collected for works. I daily receive messages from parents that money is raised. The sum varies between 500 and 2,000 lei,” Codreanu said.    

Almost 38,000 children attend those about 160 kindergartens from Chisinau.
