Over 70 drivers documented driving drunk in Moldova

Chisinau, 16 July /MOLDPRES/ – During the weekend, over 70 drivers were found drunk while driving by policemen.
Interviewed by agency, press officer of the National Patrol Inspectorate (INP), Natalia Golovco, said that on 13 – 16 July, there were found drunk driving 76 drivers, out of whom 51 were documented for advanced intoxication, 16 – with minor offences, and nine others will be investigated for refusing to carry out the tests.
Earlier, Prime Minister Pavel Filip asked the Interior Ministry (MAI) to tighten punishments for drunk drivers, and at the end of last week, Parliament adopted a draft law at first reading on it. The project provides for fines of up to MDL 25,000 or unpaid community work for up to 60 hours for drunk driving enthusiasts. According to the document voted by MPs, by court decision, these drivers will be deprived of right to drive means of transport for 01 – 03 years.
Similarly, drunk driving drivers and those which have been deprived of the right to drive for similar reasons will be required to attend an anti – alcohol and anti – drug programme.
