International experts to assess water insurance projects in northern districts of Moldova

Chisinau, 18 July /MOLDPRES/ – The representatives of an expert company contracted by German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ) will assess two water supply and sanitation programmes in the north of Moldova. These are the projects in Drochia city and six villages in Rascani district.

The international experts began working visit on 17 July in Balti city during a meeting at North Regional Development Agency (ADR Nord), an institution which implements two EU funded projects.

At the meeting, it was mentioned that, in the case of Drochia project, a company named after a tender has drawn up the technical reports and is in charge of conducting water analysis. According to experts, the water analysis results will determine further decisions on water source to supply Drochia city. In this context, international expert, Michael Uhlich, pointed out that investments in water quality have been the priority, then in aqueduct networks. For project in Rascani district, there were signed drafting documents.

"We are at stage of identifying all optimal technical solutions for achieving the desired results in project implementation process. However, professional approach and practices of international experts are of great use to us," said director of ADR Nord, Vitali Povonschi, interviewed by agency.

In Drochia city, there will be rehabilitated 4.6 km of drinking water supply pipeline under pressure and 8.5 km of water supply networks, which are to be extended by around 9 km. Also, there will be built 7 water towers and 6 drinking water tanks, a drinking water treatment plant and two pumping stations will be rehabilitated in Drochia. Similarly, there will be installed 7 hydrophore stations in multifloored residential blocks.

In villages Pascauti, Damascani, Proscurini, Galaseni, Malaiesti and Hiliuti, Rascani district, there will be built 19.6 km of drinking water distribution networks and 40 km of sewerage networks. A pipeline of 26 km long will be also built, as well as 3 sewage treatment plants, a drinking water treatment plant and a pumping station for 28 localities in Rascani district.

The two projects, developed by ADR Nord, are funded by the European Union in cooperation with project "Modernizarea Serviciilor Publice Locale in Republica Moldova" (The modernising LPS in Moldova), implemented by GIZ in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment (MADRM) and financially supported by German Ministry for Economic and Development Cooperation (GMEDC), Governments of Sweden and Romania, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SADC).
