Chisinau, 28 July /MOLDPRES/ - A meeting of the Joint Control Commission (JCC) was held in Bender on 26 July, under the pressure of Russia’s delegation. The participants in the meeting discussed issues of the situation in the Security Zone and solutions to ensure the free movement and security on the bridge across the Dniester river nearby the settlements Gura Bacului and Bacioc, the Reintegration Polices Bureau has reported.
Head of the General Staff of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces, colonel Vitaly Morozov described the situation in the Security Zone as stable, as a result of its monitoring by the Joint Military Command during the last two weeks (11 July – 24 July.
The problem in terms of ensuring security and free movement nearby the bridge across Dniester between the villages Gura Bacului and Bacioc was considered at the second unordinary meeting of JCC, led also by the co-head of the Commission on behalf of Russia, Ilya Uvarov. The discussions were focused on compromise proposals by the Russian delegation, presented at a JCC meeting from 28 June 2018. The proposals provide for the implementation of the mechanism of monitoring and ensuring the free movement on the aforementioned bridge only by servicemen of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces jointly with employees of the police and so-called ‘’Transnistrian militia’’, according to provisions of the ceasefire agreement from 21 July 1992 and JCC’s subsequent decisions.
Tiraspol’s representatives categorically rejected the concerned proposals without solid arguments this time too.
It is worth mentioning that the non-constructive position and the lack of wish of the Transnistrian delegation to identify a compromise solution leads to a further blocking of the work of the Joint Control Commission and substantially undermines the efficiency of the peacekeeping mission in Moldova’s Transnistrian region.
Moldova’s delegation to JCC called on all sides, especially the Transnistrian component and the Russian one, to abstain from any unilateral actions on the period of the vacation (August), including from military exercises, which might destabilize the situation in the Security Zone, just as it happened in the previous years. The representatives of Tiraspol and Russia made no comment on this appeal.
The next meeting JCC will take place on 6 September.
