Chisinau, 13 September /MOLDPRES/ – After amendment of the Citizenship Act (LC), the number of persons which applied for the citizenship of Moldova throughout recognition under the simplified procedure increased. Thus, since 19 April 2018 and until the end of August, there have been filed 2,300 applications on it, with a thousand requests more than in 2017.

The Public Services Agency (ASP) said in a press release that the statistical data in recent years show that acquiring Moldovan citizenship throughout recognition is the most requested procedure. Almost 85 per cent of applicants opt for it. There were submitted 1,554 applications for Moldovan citizenship in 2017, out of which 1,309 were for recognition.

Out of 2,300 applications filed in 2018, there were registered 2,282 with ASP subdivisions in Moldova, and another 25 were registered with the diplomatic missions of Moldova.

The simplified procedure provides that persons over the age of 18 born on the territory of Moldova, regardless of whether they hold the citizenship of another state and whether they are domiciled in Moldova or abroad, are recognised as citizens of Moldova from the time of filing the application in this respect, which contains the consent applicant.

The amendments to LC, which provides for the simplification of the procedure for acquiring citizenship of Moldova, came into force on 19 April 2018.
