Experts from Latvia visit southern, northern regions of Moldova

Chisinau, 13 September /MOLDPRES/ – A group of experts from Latvia visited the South and North Development Regions on 11 – 12 September. The Latvian specialists shared their colleagues in Moldova with practices and experiences in the development of regional strategic planning documents and ensuring synergy with local initiatives, efficient waste management, cross – border projects, etc.

During the meetings in the south and north of Moldova, the experts referred to the structure and attributions of regional development institutions of Latvia as well as the economic development of the regions in their country. Also, they spoke about Latvian experience in implementing the territorial – administrative reform following the Danish model, explaining its peculiarities, undertaken steps, positive and negative parts.

"Taking into account that Moldova is also on the verge of a territorial and administrative reorganisation, I came up with some conclusions and recommendations on its successful implementation. The Moldovan colleagues must know that dialogue with people is very important in it, but also an impact analysis of possible reform options", said the Latvian experts.

"Our cooperation with Latvia, the foundations of which were launched two years ago as a result of the partnership between the Latvian Ministry of Environment and Regional Development and the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment (MADRM) of Moldova, is beginning to take shape and I hope that, in perspectives, to give the first fruits. Certainly, we have what we learn from Latvians. Together, we managed to identify common development perspectives, projects that will benefit both sides, but especially the citizens of the South Region of the country," said director of ADR Sud, Maria Culesov.

"We highly appreciate the cooperation with Latvia, which we have developed in recent years with the support of the Ministry of Regional Environment and Regional Development in Riga. Together, we have succeeded in facilitating the signing of many cooperation agreements by local public authorities (APL) and representatives of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in our countries, and organise a series of study visits both in Northern Moldova and Latvia," said director of ADR Nord, Vitali Povonschi.

The visit of Latvian experts took place in the framework of project: The supporting the development of the regions of Moldova and Georgia by promoting participation of citizens and strengthening local and regional planning and implementation capacities, implemented by the Latvian Rural Forum in partnership with the Ministry of Defence Environment and Regional Development of Latvia.
