Chisinau, 9 October /MOLDPRES/- The draft amendment to the Constitution by setting the term "European integration" will be put to the vote at one of the next sessions of the parliament. Democrats leader Vlad Plahotniuc made the statement today.
The ruling coalition currently does not have enough votes for the adoption of the draft and PLDM and PL have not yet decided on how to vote, so PDM decided to submit the initiative to the vote at the next sessions.
"We believe that setting the concept of European integration in the Constitution, as a basic element of Moldova's national development strategy, should not be negotiated politically and should not be part of political games. The term in which we can vote this law soon expires, that is why we decided to put this draft in the vote at the next meetings and so each MP will have a chance to prove if he is really pro-European," he said.
He noted that the idea of European integration of Moldova should be depoliticised, not be subject to electoral speculation. "The concern of any government must not be geopolitical, but people’s welfare," Plahotniuc said.
Previously, the PDM has worked out a draft law to amend the Constitution by setting the term "European integration".
