Treatment interventions by extraction of neuro-thromb to be made in Moldova in case of cerebral vascular accidents

Chisinau, 16 October /MOLDPRES/ - Treatment interventions through extractions of neuro-thrombs will be made in Moldova in case of cerebral vascular accidents, The state secretary general at the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry, Boris Gilca, made statements to this effect at a conference today.

According to Gilca, the first operation of this kind was carried out at the Emergency Medicine Institute on 29 September 2018. The intervention was possible thanks to a special apparatus brought by the authorities and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency.

„This success is due, to a great extent, to the partnership between the neurology and neurosurgery clinic of the Emergency Medicine Institute and the Department of Radiology and Neuroradiology of the University Hospital from Kiel, Germany, where members of our team made more internships. At present, we can be proud of this performance in Moldova as well,” the director of the aforementioned institute, Mihai Ciocanu, said.

The Health Ministry official noted that, in Moldova, the cerebral vascular accident represented the third cause of death and first one of residents’ invalidization.

“Therefore, the implementation of contemporary ways of treatment represents an obvious need. The endovascular treatment is indicated in the case of patients with ischemic acute cerebral vascular accident in the interval of 4.5 and 6 hours after the beginning of symptoms. That is why, the success of the treatment depends very much on the early appeal to the specialized medical assistance,” Gilca said.

He specified that, on the next period, once the hospital specialized services are regionalized, this revolutionary way of treating the cerebral vascular accidents would be extended in other hospitals too, especially in Moldova’s northern and southern regions, in order to provide equal chances to all residents.

The mechanic extraction of neuro-thrombs represents a minimally invasive procedure which allows removing thrombs from cerebral vessels under angiographic guidance and with the help of a comprehensive system of catheters, assisted by vacuum aspiration.

Statistics shows that about 12,000 patients are annually diagnosed with cerebral vascular accident in Moldova.
