Film maker from Moldova gets award of festival in Greece

Chisinau, 06 November /MOLDPRES/ – Film: Calarasi – un tinut la poarta raiului (Calarasi – a land at the gate of Heaven) won award: Best documentary film on the history and conservation of heritage at the Amorgos Tourism Film Festival, which took place on 31 October – 05 November, on Amorgos island.

The above – mentioned festival takes place annually on the Greek island during the International Convention on Culture and Tourism in Amorgos and is organised by the Women's Cultural Association of Tholaria – Amorgos. The event aims to popularise and encourage the implementation of ecological tourism practices, driven by the need for social responsibility and sustainable development, support the production of films and promote a spirit of friendship and cooperation among producers worldwide.

Documentary film: Calarasi – a land at the gate of Heaven, with a duration of 52 minutes, is produced in 2018 by Symbol Media (Moldova) co-produced by Alternative Cinema HI-FI Production (Romania), with the support of the Calarasi District Council.

 

According to the film's author, Calaras is a special land. This rich settlement also has its specific priorities: history, culture, spirituality, ethnography, agriculture, crafts and occupations, but also the use of Codri as a means of defence. Due to Codri, Calarasi region was able to withstand all the barbaric invasions over time.

Film: Calarasi – a land at the gate of Heaven won another 3 awards in 2018, after the first three festivals: The best film award on etnoecology (Nature and Indigenous People) at the International film festival: To Save and Preserve, Russia, Grand Prix Best Ethnographic Film at the International Ethnographic Film Festival in Zlatna, Alba, Romania, Best documentary at the Constanta International Film Festival, within the International Festival of Independent Theatre. Recently, the film was selected at Independent Producers Indie Film Festival, at its 13th issue and held in Bucharest, 17 – 22 September.  

Dumitru Grosei was born in 1969 in village Marinici, Nisporeni district. In 1992 – 1994 he studied at the Faculty of Law of the University of Iasi, and in 1999 he graduated from the Faculty of Film Direction at the National University of Theatre and Cinematography in Bucharest. In 1995, he was second director of French director, Bertrand Tavernier, for film: Capitaine Conan. Currently, Dumitru Grosei lives in Chisinau and is president and founder of the Alternative Cinemas Association of Independent Filmmakers. In 2016 – 2017 he held the position of director of the National Film Archive of Moldova.
