Chisinau, 8 November /MOLDPRES/- Fresh fruits and vegetables will be subject to compliance with quality requirements. A draft law in this regard was adopted today in final reading by a vote of 54 MPs.
Under the document, the control will be carried out at all stages of food chain to the end consumer and will be applied to private people and legal entities, except for the domestic sector. Compliance checks will be conducted by the National Food Safety Agency, which will monitor and set a control system, including risk assessment.
Fresh fruit and vegetables quality certificates will be issued free of charge by the inspection body in paper or electronic form. At the same time, the inspection body will create a database of economic agents in the food chain involved in fresh fruit and vegetable sector activities.
The document will adjust the national legislation to the EU rules and practices, ensuring an effective legal framework for increasing the quality of fresh fruit and vegetables, limiting imports, increasing export and protecting consumer rights.
At present, fruits and vegetables that are placed in the food chain are not labeled, sorted or calibrated according to quality requirements, and their price is standard for a mix of classes, varieties or caliber, which disadvantages consumers.
