Chisinau, 8 November /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers today gave a positive note to a draft law for the approval of the Moldova 2030 Strategy. The document of policies is focused on people, is brought in line with the commitments taken according to the Moldova-EU Association Agreement and includes a robust system of monitoring and evaluation.
The intermediate assessment of the Moldova 2020 National Development Strategy was carried out in June-August 2017. The evaluation confirmed that the concerned document has not achieved the initially set goals and, in particular, is not got in line with the most important international commitments assumed by Moldova – Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development and the Moldova-EU Association Agreement. As a result, Moldova’s government initiated the working out of a new long-term strategy, till 2030.
The improvement of the living standards is the strategic goal of the document. The Strategy’s major objective is to fulfill the fundamental human social and economic rights and to make sure that all people have equal chances, no matter various criteria making people different, taking into account, at the same time, the sustainable character of the development, showed by the environment in which the man lives. One of the scenarios, elaborated by authors, sees the reduction of poverty, its incidence, measured at the threshold of 5.73 dollars per day, from 15.6 per cent in 2015 to 5.4 per cent in 2030.
In September 2015, Moldova, along with another 192 UN member states, adopted the Declaration of the Summit on Sustainable Development, through which it committed to enforce the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development, with a string of 17 sustainable development goals. Thus, till 2030, Moldova is to mobilize efforts to remove all forms of poverty, in order to combat the inequalities and tackle problems of climate change.
Those 17 sustainable development goals are contained also in the ten pillars of the Moldova 2030 Strategy, including sustainable and inclusive economy, robust human and social capital, honest and efficient institutions, sound environment, etc. The draft was worked out by the State Chancellery, with the support of development partners, civil society and academic environment. Ten working groups on priority sectors were set up to elaborate the draft.
The draft law on the approval of the Moldova 2030 Strategy will be submitted to parliament for consideration.
