Afghanistan war veterans of Moldova to be awarded Commemorative Cross distinction

Chisinau, 14 November /MOLDPRES/ - As many as 8,500 participants in the combat actions in Afghanistan, holding the title of war veterans, will be awarded the Commemorative Cross, Participant in Combat Actions in Afghanistan (1979-1989). The cabinet took a decision to this end today, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The distinctions will be provided at the events dedicated to the day of commemorating those who died in the Afghanistan war. About 2.6 million lei is provided for in the 2019 state budget to make these distinctions.
Also today, the cabinet approved a decision on building, in the Cahul city, of a memorial plaque dedicated to the soldiers who died in combat actions in Afghanistan. It will be placed in a square on the Victoriei blvd from Cahul and the expenses are to be covered by the Cahul-based Union of Afghanistan War Veterans.
The 30th anniversary of the withdrawal of the Soviet troops from Afghanistan will be marked on 15 February 2019.
