Moldovan – Romanian economic cooperation intergovernmental commission to meet twice per year

Chisinau, 15 November /MOLDPRES/ – The developments in the implementation of the Moldovan – Romanian projects and the current stage of the bilateral investment relations have been discussed today by Prime Minister, Pavel Filip, and Minister for Business, Commerce and Entrepreneurship of Romania, Stefan – Radu Oprea, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The officials have met in the context of the XIth session of the Joint intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation between Moldova and Romania, which took place today in Chisinau municipality.

The PM welcomed the organisation of the commission meeting, mentioning that it has represented a platform for identifying solutions to existing issues and initiating new projects, advantageous for both states. In order to boost the implementation of the projects already launched, it was agreed that the sessions of the commission should be set twice a year.

The head of the executive said that the Moldovan-Romanian economic relations have been growing, and the amount of jointly launched projects has remained a priority for Moldova. These include the collaboration with Transgaz as to increase the energy security of Moldova, interconnection of electric networks, as well as social projects such as renovation of kindergartens from the grant offered by the Romanian side.

Among the ambitious objectives that the parties intend to achieve, there is the possibility of constructing the Chisinau – Bucharest railroad line, rehabilitation of some bridges, collaboration on third markets, interconnection on the supply of drinking water and, as a priority, elimination of roaming charges between the two states. "In this I see the true rapprochement – in concrete projects fromwhich people will benefit," added PM.

At his turn, Stefan – Radu Oprea specified that all subjects related to the Moldovan – Romanian trade – economic relations were reviewed at the commission meeting and that Romania is open to collaboration intensification. "According to the value of trade, Romania ranks first. We want to be at the forefront of investments in Moldova," said Stefan – Radu Oprea.

The officials also discussed tourism cooperation opportunities, expressing interest in creating joint tourism packages.
