National Bank of Moldova to organize numismatic exhibition dedicated to 25th anniversary of Moldovan leu

Chisinau, 28 November /MOLDPRES/ - A numismatic exhibition dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Moldovan leu, due to comprise the period from the beginning of the Anno Domini till present, will be held at the National History Museum of Moldova on 29 November – 6 December 2018.
The event is organized by the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) jointly with the National History Museum and the International Club of Collectors from Moldova.
At the exhibition, BNM will present a collection of commemorative and jubilee coins, as well as sketches of the first coins from Moldova.
The National History Museum has selected for the exhibition two medieval treasures of coins, found by archaeologists in our geographic space. One of them is made up of thalers-lei from the 17th century and another one - of Ottoman coins from the 18th century.
The International Club of Collectors from Moldova will present coins from the Ancient Rome and Greece, as well as medieval coins from the 15th-17th centuries, issued in Moldavia.
The string of events dedicated to the Moldovan leu at a quarter of century includes also an official ceremony, within which the winners of a contest of essays titled, The Moldovan Leu at the 25th Anniversary, will be announced.
The national currency of Moldova was put into circulation on 29 November 1993.
