Famous Moldovan writer marks 85th birthday anniversary

Chisinau, 17 December /MOLDPRES/ - Writer, translator, publicist, book editor, Eugenia David, who has been awarded the honorific title, Merited Culture Employee, marks her 85th anniversary today.
Eugenia David was born in the Fantanita village, northern Drochia district, in 1933. She graduated from the Philology Faculty of the Chisinau-based Ion Creanga Pedagogical Institute in 1955 and made her post-graduate studentship at the same institute in 1957-59.
David was teacher of Romanian language and literature at the secondary school from the Boiany village, Chernivtsi region (1955-1956), editor and head of editorial office at the Cartea Moldoveneasca (Moldovan Book) publishing house (1959-1973) and head of section at the Nistru (Dniester) magazine (1973-1989). Eugenia David cooperated with the Moldova-film studio as translator of scenarios for dubbing movies. Also, Eugenia David was literary consultant at the Moldovan Writers Union (1989-1991) and adviser at the State Department for Publishing Houses, Polygraphy and Commerce with Books (1997-1998).
She translated novels and tales from the Russian and universal literature, including books for children. In 2003, David edited a volume of miniatures, dialogues and translations Viața ca o iluzie (Life as an Illusion). She published literary portraits in the Saptamana (The Week) magazine.
Eugenia David was also awarded the Gloria Muncii (Labour Glory) order.
