Nine persons suffer hypothermia, frostbite due to cold weather condition in Moldova

Chisinau, 27 December /MOLDPRES/ – Nine cases of hypothermia and frostbite were recorded during the four days of rest offered on Christmas in new style.
According to the National Centre for Prehospital Emergency Medical Assistance’s (CNAMUP) info and media communication service, the doctors were asked in five cases of hypothermia and four cases of frostbite.
Contacted by agency, the public relations specialist at CNAMUP, Galina Boboc, stated that the requests came in the following localities: Chisinau, Balti, Briceni, Stefan Voda, Ungheni, Singerei and Cahul.
"The patients are aged between 19 and 88 years. They were taken from the street as well as from home. The calls were made by patients or passers – by. The patients most often suffered frostbite. Most calls were made on Saturday, 22 December, when outside temperatures were lower. Most of the patients turned out to be street or elderly persons which do not have heating in their homes. All persons received medical help and were hospitalised," said Galina Boboc.
The hypothermia and frostbite are characteristic to cold season conditions. The risk groups include children, elderly persons with chronic illnesses, alcohol users, persons with mental illness and the homeless ones.
According to the State Hydrometeorological Service, the weather condition is warming insignificant in upcoming days. During the day, it will record up to +05ºC, in the south of Moldova, and at night the thermometres will indicate up to – 02ºC in the north. Isolated will snow.
