Road traffic on national routes ensured under winter conditions in Moldova

Chisinau, 11 January /MOLDPRES/ – The road traffic on national routes is provided in winter conditions, and workers constantly carry out patrols, snow removal and fighting the slide. The announcement was made for agency by the head of the State Road Administration operational service, Sergiu Capatina.
According to the quoted source, during the night, there were recorded snow and ice in the north and in the south of Moldova, and in the south precipitation in the form of snow, somewhere sleet. "There were 214 trucks and 294 workers on the roads. The road workers used over 1,633 tonnes of anti-slip material. At present, the snow continues, and all road sectors are monitored and, if necessary, intervened," said Sergiu Capatina.
Head of the Press Service of the National Patrol Inspectorate, Alina Bunghez, told the agency that over recent 24 hours, more than 170 patrol crews and 360 officers have been active in the country. "The drivers are urged to travel at low speeds both in and out of localities, to keep a greater distance between cars so they can manage to brake and avoid parking near trees," said Bunghez.
Chisinau City Hall announced that the road traffic runs in winter conditions in the capital, and are there not closed streets. The public transport runs on all municipal routes. Exdrupo takes over to clean the streets. Last night, the roadmakers scattered 280 tonnes of anti-slip material.
At the same time, the Housing and Commune Registry has intervened with 36 vehicles, scattering 5 tonnes of anti-skid material on pavements and courtyards. Also, about 350 workers clean public transport waiting stops, and another 400 work to clear the sidewalks.
The municipal authorities urge citizens to use public transport, to the detriment of personal cars; motorists not to park along the streets and sidewalks, to avoid crowding traffic and allow snow removal equipment to intervene. Also, economic agents of Chisinau and property managers are called to clean the snow from their territory.
Under the complicated weather conditions, rescuers warn the population to take account of weather warnings and not to go on long journeys if there is no need. If these trips are indispensable, the clothes must be appropriate to the outside temperature, and meals are required to provide the body with energy. At the same time, drivers are urged to equip their means of transport according to the winter season, and in the trunk of the car to keep shovel, sand, chains, water reserves and food.
Likewise, specialists recommend that people who choose to go on a long way to keep the battery of the charged phone, and in case of emergency call emergency service at 112. Also, people are asked to avoid moving on portions that hang branches and electric cables to avoid trauma.

According to the meteorologists, there are expected strong snowfalls, temporary blizzards will be formed, there will be formed snowdrifts on the roads, it will be sleet and ice on the electric wires and branches. The northwest wind will increase to 15 – 20 m/s. The thermometres will indicate up to – 14ºC in the north during the night, and the day will record temperature of up to +03ºC in the south of Moldova.
