Romanian gas company, European bank sign financing agreement for interconnection project in Moldova

Chisinau, 25 January /MOLDPRES/ – The Romanian company Transgaz and the European Investment Bank (EIB) have signed the financing contract for the Ungheni-Chisinau interconnection project in Luxembourg worth €38 million.

According to the MEI's information and media communication service, the project implementation involves the construction of a Ungheni – Chisinau gas pipeline and three natural gas delivery stations, two in Chisinau and one in Semeni, Ungheni. Also, it will be provided the centre for dispatching and directing from Ghidighici.

"It is a very important project for Moldova, which will ensure the security of natural gas supply by diversifying the sources and sources of supply. This project provides us with a new gas alternative that will strengthen energy security. Another important moment is that our country will be integrated into the energy infrastructure projects of EU," said Minister of Economy and Infrastructure, Chiril Gaburici.

The Transgaz company built the Iasi – Ungheni gas pipeline and currently manages the construction of the Ungheni – Chisinau pipeline. The Ungheni – Chisinau gas transport network represents the second phase of the Iasi – Ungheni – Chisinau interconnection project.

In the middle of this month, the Ministry of Economy announced that Transgaz started construction works for the Ungheni – Chisinau natural gas pipeline throughout the signing by administrators of Vestmoldtransgaz of the contract for the acquisition of works for the administrative complex Ghidighici.

The Ungheni – Chisinau pipeline will have a length of 120 km and capacity to transport about 1.5 billion m3 of natural gas yearly from Romania to Moldova.
