Moldovan consumers receive damage compensations worth over one million lei for nonconforming products in 2018

Chisinau, 28 January /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s consumers received damage compensations of more than one million lei in 2018, after they had purchased nonconforming goods. Last year, consumers submitted 1,700 petitions to the Agency for Consumer’s Protection and Market Supervision (APCSP), - by 800 less against 2017.
Thus, consumers returned the equivalent value for diverse products, such as washing machines, electric ovens, TV sets, mobile phones, furniture, footwear, clothes, as well as for services. The largest sum returned for nonconforming products is for mobile phones, amounting to more than 150,000 lei. Home electric appliances are on the second position, with 93,000 lei returned to buyers. Consumers received 60,000 lei for nonconforming furniture.
In the case of services provided improperly, most money was returned to consumers who benefited from services of repair of nonconforming vehicles and for tourist services.
The largest sum returned for 2018 is a compensation of damage worth more than 340,000 lei in the wake of a traffic accident. At the same time, the smallest sum may be considered 6.8, returned for a defective osier basket, bought at a Chisinau-based hypermarket. According to APCSP, there are cases when consumers receive 1 leu as damage compensation.
Up to 45 declarations are weekly submitted to APCSP.
