Chisinau, 5 February /MOLDPRES/- Today, all categories of vehicles can cross the border crossing point Palanca, the only condition is that they do not carry alcoholic beverages, tobacco and goods subject to veterinary and phyto-sanitary control. So far, traffic was only allowed for vehicles of up to 3.5 tonnes and a capacity of up to 22 seats, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The common border crossing point was inaugurated on 28 December 2018, in the presence of Prime Minister Pavel Filip and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. The premier said that the joint control benefits are already being felt by every person crossing the border - citizens do not spend hours in line, and the modern infrastructure approaches the European countries. "It is the sixth joint checkpoint and an example when Moldova is able to control the border on central segment", Filip said.
The Palanca post was built under a project implemented by UNDP Moldova worth 6.18 million euros, of which 4.5 million were allocated by the European Union and 1.68 million euros - Moldovan government’s contribution.
Currently, joint control is applied to six border crossing points: Criva-Mamaliga, Larga-Kelmenti, Briceni-Rossosani, Giurgiulesti-Reni, Cuciurgan-Pervomaisc and Palanca-Maiaki-Udobnoe.
