Chisinau, 05 February /MOLDPRES/ – An itinerant exhibition, titled: The Japanese dolls, was varnished at the National Art Museum of Moldova (MNAM) today.
At the beginning of the event, the director of the institution, Tudor Zbarnea, has mentioned that the doll is part of the Japanese culture and the exhibition reached Chisinau due to the Japanese Foundation and the Embassy of Japan in Moldova.
"You will see in every doll with how much love it was made. It is an exhibition that must be visited by both children and adults. Next year, we plan to organise a large Japanese stamp exhibition, because oriental art interests us and has always brought us great value," said Tudor Zbârnea.
In his greeting message, Ambassador of Japan to Moldova, Masanobu Yoshii, said that the exhibition has travelled throughout more countries and has been appreciated by many artists. "The exhibition includes almost 70 dolls. There are several types of traditional dolls: some are babies and children, others are imperial courts, soldiers and heroes or characters in stories. There are also dolls related to the traditional Japanese theatre such as Kabuki and Noh. Some dolls were created by contemporary artists. Moreover, the dolls you can admire here are from different regions of Japan," said Masanobu Yoshii.
According to the Japanese official, in Japan dolls are a part of daily life from ancient times. At the beginning of the 11th century, there were already several types of dolls. In the 17th century, the market for wealthy Japanese persons began to work, which wanted the most beautiful sets of dolls to be displayed in their homes or to be offered as a precious gift.
The exhibition is open until 10 March.
