Chisinau, 7 February /MOLDPRES/- About 100 wines made in Moldova were exhibited in Japan at a reception presenting the national wine brand and Moldova as a tourist destination. The Moldovan wine was appreciated by over 150 connoisseurs, officials, representatives of the trade networks, businessmen, journalists, sommeliers and representatives of the diplomatic staff.

Attending the event were eight companies from Japan. Samples from 21 wineries that sent 95 types of quality wine from our country were exhibited there. The event was organized by the Moldovan Embassy in Japan with the support of the Moldova Competitiveness Project financed by USAID and the Government of Sweden and in cooperation with the National Vine and Wine Office.

Moldovan Ambassador to Japan Vasile Bumacov said that the reception is a celebration of the work of importing companies in Japan, promoting Moldovan wines to the Japanese public. It is also a good opportunity for the producers in our country to present high quality wines, Bumacov said.

Kenji Yamada, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, said that Moldova's wine was popular among noblemen and European royal families, and today winemaking remains a major industry representing 3.2% of GDP and 7.5% of Moldova's export. "I am honored to taste Moldovan wine and I am convinced that such exchanges will deepen the good cooperation between our nations," he said.

In 2018, Japan imported 276,000 liters of Moldovan wine, with an average export price of 2.9 dollars per liter, which is one of the highest export prices for Moldovan wine.
