Lighting stakes banned in Moldova on Easter night

Chisinau, 27 April /MOLDPRES/ - The lighting of stakes on the Easter night and burning of tyres is banned. The warning was issued by the Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry and people who will not observe it, run the risk of getting fines worth up to 25,000 lei.
According to specialists, during the burning of tyres, 23 dangerous chemical substances are emanated into the atmosphere, of which eight are cancer-causing. Among them, there are the carbon monoxide, sulphur and nitrogen oxides, dioxins, furans, heavy metals, benzene and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.
At the same time, the breathing of the black smoke is noxious and causes bronchitis, asthma, pulmonary intoxications or diseases of the nervous system. Depending on the intensity and direction of the wind, the harmful substances can be spread at distances larger than 160 km.
On this period, the inspectors for environmental protection, forest guard and representatives of other competent institutions carry out raids both to the forest fund and to adjacent areas and with increased risk of fire outbreaks.
Also, people carrying out leisure activities in the forest fund and rest zones are warned to opt for specially arranged places, including from the viewpoint of the anti-fire security.
Under the Contravention Code, the pollution of the atmospheric air by pollutants is sanctioned with fine worth up to 3,000 lei for private persons and up to 25,000 lei for legal entities.
