Cultivating memory of Holocaust, fighting anti – Semitism, hatred, intolerance discussed in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 08 May /MOLDPRES/ – It has been held a roundtable at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MAEIE) today, where the representatives from governmental institutions, National Coalition for the Support of Eurasian Jews (CNSEE), as well as representatives of diplomatic missions and public organisations from Moldova have discussed the achievements in the field of educational policies regarding the cultivation of Holocaust memory, research and preservation of historical and cultural heritage of Moldovan Jews and improvement of national legislation in preventing and combating anti – Semitism, hatred and intolerance.
According to the MAEIE’s public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service, the Minister of MAEIE, Tudor Ulianovschi, and Minister of Education, Culture and Research (MECC), Monica Babuc, mentioned the progress made in the opening of the event. The Government Action Plan on Implementation of Parliament's Declaration of 22 July 2016 on the acceptance of the Report of Elie Wiesel.
Minister Tudor Ulianovschi thanked international partners for their support to Moldova in implementing the framework documents in the discussed field. "I should like to point out that, against the backdrop of the worrying rise of anti – Semitism and other threats and extremist movements around the world, Moldova remains firm in promoting interethnic understanding and adopts measures to cultivate Holocaust memory, combat anti – Semitism, hatred and intolerance of all kinds".
At her turn, Monica Babuc emphasised the role of education, culture and scientific research in studying the history of Holocaust and cultivating the memory of victims of this great tragedy for such crimes against humanity to never be repeated. "The visit of today and meeting is a good opportunity to dialogue with the Jewish communities in the world, but also to make a stock – taking on the actions of the Action Plan."
Also, head of CNSEE, Daniel Rubin, said in his speech that the commitments made by the Moldovan authorities to fight anti – Semitism should be an inspiration for all, "we deeply appreciate this initiative of the Government in Chisinau." Chairman of the Council of Leadership of the Jewish Community of Moldova, Emmanuil Grinspun, said "in the context of joint actions undertaken in cooperation with the Government of Moldova in the areas presented, I should like to express my gratitude and hope for future fruitful collaboration, done together".
During the event, it was also made a review of the progress made in implementation of the Action Plan for 2017 – 2019 on realisation of the Declaration of the Parliament of Moldova on acceptance of final report of the International Commission for Study of Holocaust, chaired by Elie Wiesel.
