Romania's ambassador to Moldova explains way Romanian citizens are to vote at elections to European Parliament

Chisinau, 10 May /MOLDPRES/ - Thirty six polling stations for the elections of the European Parliament (EP) members from Romania will be opened in Moldova. Romania’s Ambassador in Chisinau Daniel Ionita today explained how the Romanian citizens with right to vote living in Moldova will be able to vote at the ballot due on 26 May.
According to the diplomat, to exercise the right to vote, electors must have a valid Romanian identity paper. The Romanian citizens with residence in Moldova, who turned 18, citizens who are in Moldova on the day of the polls, no matter the reason for their presence here and citizens with right to vote from other EU member states, who registered in special lists to vote the MEPs on behalf of Romania will be able to take part in the elections.
To be able to vote, the citizens with right to vote will have to hold one of the following documents: diplomatic passport, electronic diplomatic passport, service passport, electronic service passport, ordinary passport, electronic ordinary passport, temporary ordinary passport, identity card, provisional identity card, electronic identity card or the ID. At the same time, Romanians will not be able to vote based on travel titles.
„I appeal to all voters to make sure that they have valid identity documents or otherwise, to make all needed steps for replacing or changing these documents ahead of the day of the polls. The consular section of Romania’s Embassy, the General Consulates of Romania from Balti and Cahul will offer needed support to provide these services before the ballot; yet, we should take into account that waiting time and procedures which must be observed are necessary. The diplomatic missions will not release documents on the day of the ballot,” Daniel Ionita said.
The ambassador gave assurances that enough ballot papers would be printed for the elections. At the same time, the diplomat noted that for Moldova, “the concerned polls have a stake as long as Moldova keeps interest to move to Europe.”
The voting will start at 7:00 and will end at 21:00.
The Romanian citizens will elect 32 lawmakers at the elections to the European Parliament, due on 26 May. The MEP’s mandate has five years. Romania will open a record number of polling stations abroad – 441, by 251 more against the previous elections to EP.
Thirteen out of those 36 polling stations opened in Moldova will act in Chisinau. Another two polling stations will be opened in Balti. At the same time, one polling station will be opened in Ungheni, Soroca, Drochia, Edinet, Falesti, Floresti, Telenesti, Hancesti, Ialoveni, Nisporeni, Orhei, Causeni, Anenii Noi, Bardar, Calarasi, Cahul, Cantemir, Cimislia, Giurgiulesti, Leova and Carabetovca each.
