Moldovans with expired Romanian papers not to be able to vote at elections for European Parliament

Chisinau, 16 May /MOLDPRES/ - Thirty six polling stations for the election of the members of the European Parliament (EP) will be opened in Moldova. At these polling stations, Moldovans with Romanian citizenship will be able to vote based on more acts; yet, they will not be able to vote with expired documents. Ambassador of Romania to Moldova Daniel Ionita has made statements to this effect in an interview given exclusively to MOLDPRES.   

According to Ionita, a record number of polling stations were opened this year and they were thought out to cover the entire territory of Moldova as fairly as possible. “In the capital, the polling stations will be placed in a circle in an area of about two km far from the Embassy of Romania, so that they can cover the flow of citizens from all districts as good as possible. We are already prepared with all office elements and voting booths,” Ionita said.      

The Romanian diplomat reiterated that, to exercise their right to vote, electors must have a valid Romanian identity act. All Romanian citizens with residence in Moldova, who turned 18, the citizens who are in Moldova on the day of elections, no matter the reasons for their presence here, and the citizens with right to vote from other EU member states, who registered in special lists, in order to vote the MEPs on behalf of Romania, can participate in the polls.  

To be able to vote, the citizens with right to vote will have to hold one of the following documents: diplomatic passport, electronic diplomatic passport, service passport, electronic service passport, ordinary passport, electronic ordinary passport, temporary ordinary passport, identity card, provisional identity card, electronic identity card or the ID. 

The voting will start at 7:00 and will end at 21:00. Thirteen out of those 36 polling stations opened in Moldova will act in Chisinau. Another two polling stations will be opened in Balti. At the same time, one polling station will be opened in Ungheni, Soroca, Drochia, Edinet, Falesti, Floresti, Telenesti, Hancesti, Ialoveni, Nisporeni, Orhei, Causeni, Anenii Noi, Bardar, Calarasi, Cahul, Cantemir, Cimislia, Giurgiulesti, Leova and Carabetovca each.
