Chisinau, 18 May /MOLDPRES/ - Meteorologists have announced Yellow Code of atmospheric instability in Moldova.

According to the State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS), thunderstorm rains are expected on 18 and 19 May, heavy ones in some regions (15-25 litres/square metre), hail and storm with gusting wind up to 17-22 metres/second.

SHS specialists said that frosts pose the greatest danger out of all bad weather meteorological phenomena in May. At the same time, in this month, the likelihood of heavy rains and big hail is higher – once in two years on average. Heavy rains are possible once in three years on average and long-lasting heavy rains – once in 50 years. The increase in the speed of the wind of more than 25 metres/second can be signaled once in five years, on average. Tornados are possible. For instance, a tornado with a devastating power was recorded in the Mandra village, central Calarasi district, on 25 May 1984.

The Yellow Code of atmospheric instability will not significantly affect the air temperature. Thus, on the next days, air temperatures of over +25 Celsius degrees are forecast during the day and about +15 degrees at night.

In the contest of these warnings, the patrol police, rescuers, local public utility bodies warn residents to be cautious, both in traffic and in other circumstances. ”It is about a week-end, worsened by complicated weather conditions; therefore, citizens must be attentive and avoid any situation which can be dangerous, especially the places and objects which can fall down or deteriorate and those who plan to go to open air, would better give up the idea. Especially drivers should be attentive, as the movement will be hard on roads,” sources of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations have told MOLDPRES.
