MPs of first Moldovan parliament ask current parliament's parties to resume dialogue for creating majority

Chisinau, 28 May /MOLDPRES/ - The lawmakers of the first parliament today made a public appeal to the MPs elected on 24 February 2019 to overcome the sterile approaches and initiate a constructive dialogue, based on the Moldova-European Union Association Agreement, and set up a parliamentary majority able to re-bring to the forefront the European democratic values.

In the appeal, the MPs of the first parliament said that, three months following the polls, a parliamentary majority had not been created and the leadership institutions still remained non-functional. The lawmakers noted that the results of the 24 February 2019 parliamentary elections had confirmed the will of most residents to be members of the great European family and the snap elections would not change the structure and composition of the parliament.

The former MPs urged the present lawmakers to put an end to the state of uncertainty, which “can throw Moldova into chaos, torpedo the Association Agreement with the European Union and change the political orientation, which would lead to Moldova’s federalization.” They also urged to current MPs to start a constructive dialogue, under the Association Agreement with EU, to set up a parliamentary majority, which should guarantee Moldova’s integration in the space of the European Union.

„Dear MPs, we urge you to get out of the parliamentary campaign, raise to the level of political responsibilities you have, initiate the constructive dialogue between the lawmakers and factions, so that the state’s institutions become functional. Otherwise, the entire responsibility for the bankruptcy of Moldova’s European course will lie with the lawmakers with European and democratic aspirations,” reads the appeal of the MPs of the First Parliament.

The parliamentary elections took place on 24 February. Following the polls, four parties entered the parliament: Party of Socialists, Democratic Party, ACUM Bloc and Shor Party.
