Moldovan deputy premier meets Director of Office of Eastern European Affairs at U.S Department of State

Chisinau, 3 June /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Lesnic today met Director of the Office of Eastern European Affairs at the U.S Department of State Bradley A. Freden, the Reintegration Policies Bureau has reported.     

The officials discussed more relevant aspects from the perspective of the Moldovan-American relations, implementation of the current priorities in the processes of European integration and strengthening the multilateral cooperation, highlighting the achievements of the government, recorded in the promotion of structural reforms and improving the quality of public services provided.

The sides paid increased attention to the Transnistrian file and present developments on this dimension. The officials also reviewed the dynamic recorded within the platforms of negotiations, level of interaction between sectoral experts on behalf of Chisinau and Tiraspol, degree of enforcement of the protocol decisions signed during 2017-2018 and measures undertaken by the Moldovan side to boost the process of settlement of the most pressing problems faced by the residents from both banks of Dniester. In this respect, Cristina Lesnic referred to the recent normative acts promoted at a cabinet meeting from 29 May 2019 and which are meant to back the residents from the Transnistrian region, especially through the establishment of a functional mechanism of certifying the civil registry facts, which took place and are recorded on the left bank of Dniester and the Bender city.   

At the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Lesnic put emphasis on the fact that the constitutional authorities were relying on the approaching and setting as a priority the maintenance and ensuring of stability in the Security Zone, guaranteeing the observance of human rights in Moldova’s eastern districts, initiating discussions on subjects from the basket of negotiations on political and security aspects, assessing the situation from the Cobasna-based depot of ammunitions, with clearing up the risk factors and establishing the actions needed to be undertaken.     

Also, Lesnic expressed the Moldovan side’s concern about the so-called representation of Tiraspol, opened in Moscow in early 2019, the signing of alleged acts regarding the village of Varnita, eastern Anenii Noi district, as well as concerning the recent unilateral actions by Tiraspol’s representatives, carried out in the perimeter of the Security Zone and the administrative line.  

The officials also touched upon the organization of a visit to Moldova by representatives of the mediators and observers in the process of talks on the Transnistrian settlement, due to take place in the near future.

In the end, Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Lesnic expressed sincere thanks for the continuous support provided to Moldova by the Washington authorities. She noted that, in this way, the U.S. authorities contributed to the support of the reformation and modernization process nationally and to strengthening the cooperation on a wide spectrum of subjects of mutual interest, including in the sense of advancement in the Transnistrian settlement process.    

For his part, the American official said that the United States was permanently willing to back the fulfillment of the foremost desiderata assumed by the Moldovan government and to provide needed assistance to this end.
