Chisinau, 5 July /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament approved the resignation of the members of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Alina Russu, Rodica Ciubotaru and Iurie Ciocan at a meeting today.
The decisions were approved with the votes of the majority of the MPs present at the meeting, based on the applications on resignation submitted by the aforementioned three members.
Iurie Ciocan resigned from the position of CEC member in late last June, invoking as reason “the disagreement with the recent amendments to the electoral legislation.” Subsequently, during this week, CEC head Alina Russu and the electoral body’s deputy head, Rodica Ciubotaru, tendered resignation.
CEC is made up of nine members. One member is nominated by the Moldovan president and the other eight members are nominated by the parliament, with the observance of the proportional representation of the majority and the opposition.
