Moldova to negotiate extension of projects, programmes financed by USA

Chisinau, 18 July /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova will negotiate with the United States the extension of the programme on strengthening the rule of law institutions till 30 March 2020. The programme was to be carried out till 30 September 2018. The cabinet of ministers, at a today’s meeting, approved the starting of talks and the signing of the ninth amendment to the agreement on assistance between the governments of Moldova and the USA.    

The goal of extending the term of agreement’s implementation is to turn to good account the financial resources left as a result of its implementation, worth 121,000 dollars out of about 8.99 million, “which will be used to assess the performance of the activities in the sector of democracy and governance.”    

Also, the government ruled to negotiate with the USA the extension, till 30 March 2020, of the project on support of local public authorities, in order to turn to account financial sources worth 74,000 dollars, left out of 17.245 million dollars, which will be used on the same purpose – ”evaluating the performance of the activities in the democracy and governance field.”  

The cabinet will initiate negotiations also on the draft of the eighth amendment to the agreement on assistance between the governments of Moldova and the United States for economic growth. The financial resources left as a result of its implementation, respectively 128,000 dollars out of 43.14 million dollars, are to be used for assessing the competitiveness project.
