Moldovan deputy premier meets U.S. ambassador

Chisinau, 25 July /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister Vasilii Sova today had a meeting with Ambassador of the United States to Moldova Dereck J. Hogan. The two officials discussed more elements dealing with the Transnistrian file, including the results of the last working meeting of the political representatives in the process of negotiations for the Transnistrian settlement, held at the headquarters of the OSCE Mission in Chisinau on 24 July, the Reintegration Policies Bureau has reported.
The sides tackled more positive initiatives, planned to be enforced by Chisinau in the interest of the residents from both banks of Dniester and highlighted the possibility to convene the next official round of the 5+2 format of talks in the autumn, this year.
The officials discussed also certain aspects which need the reaching of a consensus and additional consultations, in order to achieve viable solutions.
The sides also discussed the issue of free movement and reiterated the approach concerning the necessity to ensure the regime of free movement of people both in the direction of the settlements from the right bank and to the left bank of Dniester.
As for the matter on the Latin-script schools, the officials reiterated the need to settle the problem of buildings and ensuring the carrying out of the education process in accordance with the present standards in the education system.
The deputy prime minister for reintegration specified that decision-makers were taking substantial efforts and analyze in many aspects options of pragmatic development of problems in the telecommunications sector.
The U.S. diplomat was informed and welcomed the willingness of Chisinau and Tiraspol to carry out joint projects, such as the extension of the trolley bus line from Tighina through Varnita to the northern district and the reconstruction of the national road Chisinau-Tiraspol-Kuchurgan.
In the end, the two officials agreed on the need to make a valuable contribution, in order to boost the role of the mediators and observers in the process of negotiations and maintain permanent consultations on aspects of common interest.
