Three days ago, amendments to the Prosecuting Law, aimed at regulating the vacancy of the post of Prosecutor General, came into force. According to them, the president of the country, at the proposal of the CSP, will appoint an interim Prosecutor General until the competition is organized.
Also, in case of rejection of the candidacy or if SPC does not propose the candidate within the indicated term, the acting General Prosecutor will be appointed by Presidential decree on proposal of Parliament, with the opinion of CSP. The Parliament will propose the nomination within 03 days of rejection of the candidacy by the President or expiry of the term for CSP to propose the nomination.
Ex – General Prosecutor, Eduard Harunjen, resigned on 11 July 2019. Currently, the position of acting Prosecutor is held by MP Igor Popa.
