Chisinau, 30 July /MOLDPRES/ - The district heads will be elected from councilors. This will be possible after the parliament today adopted, in the first reading, amendments to the law on the local public administration.
The initiative’s authors are MPs Liviu Vovc and Alexandru Slusari.
„According to the present provisions, a person who has actually not been elected local authority and who has not participated in electoral campaign, i.e. he/she has no representativeness provided by the local collectivity, can be elected as district head,” the authors of the legislative initiative said.
The draft sees also amendments in terms of election and dismissal of deputy mayors. Thus, the deputy mayors will be elected to and dismissed from offices under a decision by the council, adopted with the votes of the majority of the elected councilors. If the draft decision is excluded by the council from the agenda at two consecutive meetings and has no needed number of votes at two meetings in a row, the mayor will appoint to or dismiss from office the deputy mayor under instruction.
The parliament is to approve the draft in the second reading.
