Program for reintegration of elderly into society launched in Chisinau

Chisinau, 4 December /MOLDPRES/- A Volunteer Program for Grandparents from the Republic of Moldova was launched on 4 December in Chisinau. It aims to promote measures to expand the participation of older people in social and economic life.
According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, on 4-16 December public events will be organized to present the volunteering program in five localities in the country: Budești (Chisinau municipality), Comrat, Criuleni, Balti, Chisinau.
Opportunities of personal development for the elderly, those of financing the activities planned at the local level, as well as partnership opportunities with organizations and institutions dedicated to promoting human rights will be presented.
The events will also focus on opportunities of involving the elderly in social activities and learning by joining the volunteer programs, in accordance with the concept of the Volunteer Program, elaborated by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection with the technical and financial support of UNDESA and UNFPA.
According to statistics, globally, every 11th person is 65 years and older, and by 2050, the number of the elderly will increase. Earlier this year, 558.4 thousand people aged 60 years and over lived in Moldova, which is 20.8% of the total population.
