Moldovan parliament establishes new mechanism of consultation with civil society, due to back legislative body's work

Chisinau, 10 December /MOLDPRES/ - A meeting on the foundation of the consultative platform of civil society’s representatives under Moldova’s parliament was held today, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The participants in the event were welcomed by Parliament Speaker Zinaida Greceanii.
”We are set to re-launch the dialogue and establish a new mechanism of systemic cooperation, which will boost the cooperation between the two sides and will contribute to the transparentizing of the legislative process, as well as optimizing and facilitating the civil society’s participation in the decision-making process,” Zinaida Greceanii said.
The speaker stressed that more dynamism was needed in the cooperation relation with the civil society, a bigger openness on behalf of the parliamentary commissions and MPs, as well as a more active involvement of non-governmental organizations.
”The dialogue and cooperation established within the Platform will contribute to identifying the most pressing needs and the fittest solutions for Moldova’s development. Thus, we will be able to make sure that the reforms proposed for implementation meet the citizens’ necessities and expectations,” Zinaida Greceanii noted.
According to the speaker, the parliament’s expectations to the civil society regard the objective assessment of the problems faced by the society, with the most important subjects brought for discussion, contribution to the improvement of the legislative framework through elaboration of expertise, impact analysis, presenting comments, proposals and recommendations on the legislative initiatives and draft laws on the parliament’s agenda, proposals on amending the legislative framework.
Parliament’s Secretary General Adrian Albu informed that the Platform’s mandate would be for the interval of the entire legislative period. At the same time, the Platform will present an activity report to the parliament speaker, which will be subsequently published on the parliament’s website.
At the first meeting, the MPs along with civil society’s representatives discussed proposals for the regulation on the work of the consultative platform of the civil society’s representatives under the Moldovan parliament.
The Platform will work as a consultative body made up of representatives of non-governmental organizations, business and academic environments, which will contribute to the elaboration, adoption, monitoring and evaluation of laws and decisions. The Platform will be made up of topic-related groups on the activity sectors related to the competent parliamentary commissions. Other participants of public authorities or experts from various fields can be invited to meetings of topic-related groups.
