Moldovan agriculture ministry willing to strengthen cooperation with United Nations agencies, agriculture minister says

Chisinau, 20 December /MOLDPRES/ - The continuation of the cooperation with the United Nations Organization (UNO) for implementing policies in the agro-food sector and environmental protection is urgent. We want to strengthen this cooperation, in order to implement projects in the sector of sustainable agriculture, local and regional development, attenuation and adaptation to the climate changes. Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Minister Ion Perju made statements to this effect at a 19 December meeting with resident Coordinator of the United Nations Organization in Moldova Simon Springett and representatives of UN agencies specialized in fields related to the ministry’s activity priorities.

„We also rely on the UN support to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, particularly the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), related to the nourishment and sustainable agriculture sector, as well as the achievement of the national objectives set in the government’s action programme, including the facilitation of the implementation of the Moldova – European Union Association Agreement,” Ion Perju said.    

For his part, Simon Springett reiterated that UN remained a supporter of the agriculture policies through the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and of the environment policies through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

As for the carrying out of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the UN office said that, through the Global Goals, an ambitious action agenda was established, focused on the liquidation of the extreme poverty, combating inequalities and injustice, environmental protection.  

At the same time, the sides established that the key cooperation fields for the next period would be: consolidating the capacities of resistance to the effects of the climate changes, development of institutional capacities in the working out and planning of rural development policies, as well as the implementation of the medium-term strategy for 2014-2023.
