Forty five policemen, 11 mayors of Moldova detained for corruption acts in 2019

Chisinau, 17 January /MOLDPRES/ - Officers of the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA) detained 45 police inspectors, 18 directors and deputy directors of state enterprises and 11 mayors and deputy mayors for corruption acts in 2019. The data is contained in the CNA’s activity report for the last year.     

According to CNA, the Interior Ministry (MAI), Health, Labour and Special Protection Ministry (MSMPS), mayors, as well as the Customs Service are among the institutions where most corruption acts were discovered in 2019.

Thus, 56 out of all offences found out were registered at MAI, 26 – at MSMPS and local public authorities each, 21 at the Customs Service, 17 – in lawyer’s offices, 13 at the Education, Culture and Research Ministry, five ones at the Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry and ANSA each, four ones in the justice bodies. Less corruption offences were recorded at the Finance Ministry (1), two ones at the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry, Defence Ministry and offices of bailiffs and three offences at the Public Services Agency.      

Among subjects of corruption acts, discovered in 2019, there are 45 police inspectors, 28 heads of autonomous institutions from authorities, 18 directors and deputy directors of state enterprises, 11 mayors and deputy mayors, five physicians, four customs officers, three teachers, two fiscal inspectors, two directors and deputy directors of national agencies.   

In the private and freelance sector, subjects of CNA’s files were 180 private persons, 24 directors of private sector enterprises and organizations, three bailiffs and 18 lawyers.   

The Chisinau municipality continues to be the worst hit settlement by corruption (441 offences), followed by Balti with 38 offences discovered and Cahul with 19.
