Chisinau, 20 January /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu has said that “the Moldovan government continues the discussions with IMF and did not make any step to compromise this cooperation.”
PM Chicu noted that the social initiatives proposed by the Moldovan cabinet were provided for in the state budget and fit the parameters considered with the International Monetary Fund. “We continue the discussions with IMF; namely this is the reason for the IMF mission’s arrival in Chisinau; if there were no discussions and wish to successfully finish this programme, they would not have come,” Ion Chicu said interview to the Free Europe.
According to the prime minister, there are two major risks for compromising Moldova’s relation with the international financial organization: “non-acceptance by IMF of increasing the parameters of investments in the Moldovan infrastructure and the Fund’s insistence to increase the natural gas’ tariffs for the residents.”
A team of the International Monetary Fund, led by the head of the IMF Mission for Moldova, Ruben Atoyan, will pay a visit to Moldova on 22 January – 5 February.
