Parliament speaker meets Council of Europe's ad-hoc group on justice reform in Moldova

Chisinau, 20 January /MOLDPRES/ - The justice reform is complex, entails many risks, but it is vital for Moldova. We will not yield, as we are determined to turn to good account the single opportunity to promote a fair justice, in the people’s interest, Parliament Speaker Zinaida Greceanii said at a today’s meeting with the ad-hoc group of Council of Europe’s experts for the justice reform in Moldova, on a visit to Chisinau, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The speaker stressed that all drafts would be compulsorily consulted with the society, including with professionals in the field, as well as with the foreign partners, such as the Venice Commission. Zinaida Grecianii reiterated openness for discussing the subjects related to reform, noting that she was not afraid of discussing the problems. “The justice reform is crucial and it should be in favour of the citizens. This is not a topic from which we should try to get political dividends; this is a vital need for the state and the citizens,” the parliament speaker said.
The sides were unanimous in identifying criteria on which work will be carried out in continuation. The reform is to be carried out transparently; decision-makers will try to get the political, institutional consensus and the one of the professional environment for the way of the process and the latter is to be inclusively with respect for the balance of the state powers, principle of the powers’ separation, as well as of the judges’ independence.
The ad-hoc Council of Europe group of experts for justice reform today met the members of the juridical commission for rules and immunities. They discussed the present instruments and opportunities for support and consultancy in working out and promoting drafts.
The ad-hoc group of Council of Europe experts was set up, in order to back efforts of strengthening the justice sector in Moldova.
