Chisinau, 21 January /MOLDPRES/ - The first issue of the Gala of Cinema Men nominated its laureates on 20 January. The event was organized, for the first time ever, by the Union of Cinema Men of Moldova, in partnership with the National Cinematography Centre and the Education, Culture and Research Ministry.
Attending the prize awarding ceremony, Education, Culture and Research Minister Corneliu Popovici has said that Moldova had been known in the world, in particular, through cinematography. “Once, thanks to our script writers and film directors, masterpieces of the world cinematography were created. I am sure that, after a quarter of century of silence, a new age of our cinematography comes, which will also make us be known in the world,” Corneliu Popovici stressed.
The official gave assurances that the Education, Culture and Research Ministry would support the development of the national cinematography, would promote a fair and transparent competition system of access to public financial sources and would back the evolution of the film industry in Moldova, through the initial and continuous professional training of specialists in the sector.
According to the head of the Union of Cinema Men of Moldova, Virgil Margineanu, 45 films participated in the contest, evaluated by a jury made up of 9 cinema men from Moldova and Romania. Thus, 20 films were nominated at 13 sections.
For his part, the director of the National Cinematography Centre, Valeriu Jereghi, pointed out that the films included in the contest had been made in the last two years. “Our goal is to promote the Moldovan cinema men, hoping that they will launch on the international stage,” Jereghi said.
Film director Ion Scutelnic noted that the Gala of Cinema Men had been organized in a European style. Yet, he voiced regret that the public had no possibility to watch these films. “We must find a way for the films of our cinema men to be screened in as many halls as possible,” Scutelnic emphasized.
