Moldovan president attends meeting of Gagauzia's legislative body

Chisinau, 21 January /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon, along with Bashkan of the Gagauz autonomy, Irina Vlah, today attended a meeting of the regional legislative body of Gagauzia, at an invitation by the Gagauz People’s Assembly.  

According to the presidential press service, the head of state welcomed the positive dynamic of the cooperation between the state bodies of Moldova and of the Gagauz autonomy. Dodon assured the local lawmakers of the fact that Chisinau would take into account the interests and needs of Gagauzia’s residents in the long run too.

Igor Dodon stressed that, on the whole, he had had a productive discussion on the most up-to-date subjects from various sectors of the social, economic and political life of the autonomy.  

In particular, the head of state specified that the sides had discussed the necessity to adopt the package of laws on adjusting the regional legislation to the national one. To this end, the sides agreed on resuming the activity of the joint working group made up of MPs of Moldova’s parliament and lawmakers of Gagauzia’s people’s assembly. The officials also referred to the possibility of “disconcertion” of the national power bodies at the level of the autonomy, while taking into account the autonomy’s wishes.
